In 1945, Kawabe Torashirō (河辺虎四郎) represented Japan in Manila to negotiate the country's surrender. On his return home to Tokyo, his plane crashed off the shore of Sodeura and he was guided to the Sodeura Post Office where a phone was available. This allowed him to contact Hamamtasu Air Base and secure a plane to arrive in Tokyo to sign and finalize Japan's surrender. The plane represents how the citizens of Sodeura helped rescue Kawabe and launch the critical flight that brought peace to Japan.
